How much does a website cost in South Africa in 2026?

What you actually pay for a small business website, what pushes the price up, and how a monthly plan compares with paying once-off. With Sybergain's real prices.

If you have asked around for website quotes, you have probably had answers that are hard to compare. One person quotes a once-off amount, another a monthly fee, and a third says “it depends”. This guide explains what you are paying for, what makes a website cost more, and what Sybergain charges, so you can compare quotes properly.

What you are actually paying for

A business website is three things, and good quotes price each one clearly:

  • Design and build. Planning your pages, designing them around your business, writing or polishing the words, and building the site so it is fast and works on phones.
  • Hosting. The server your website lives on, plus your domain connected with a security certificate (the padlock in the browser).
  • Care after launch. Security updates, backups, fixing anything that breaks, and making small changes when your prices or opening hours change.

Some quotes bundle all three into one number. Others only quote the design and leave hosting as a surprise. Always ask what happens, and what you pay, after the site goes live.

Hosting & care is always separate from the website price. It includes hosting, up to 10 business email inboxes, backups, security updates and up to 2 hours of small changes every month.

So a typical first year with a Starter website is R750 a month: R500 for the website and R250 for hosting and care. Once the website is paid off after 12 months, you only pay the R250.

What makes a website cost more

The biggest price drivers are easy to spot once you know them:

Number of pages

Every page is planned, designed, written and tested. A five-page site (Home, About, Services, Gallery, Contact) is very different from a site with a separate page for every service and area you work in.

Selling online

An online store needs product pages, a cart, secure card and EFT payments, delivery options and order emails. That is why e-commerce costs more than a brochure website.

Custom features

Booking systems, client portals, quote calculators and AI chatbots all take extra building. They can also save you hours every week, so judge them on what they save, not only on what they cost.

Content

If you supply your own words and photos, the job is quicker. If you need help writing the copy or sourcing images, budget for that time.

Monthly plan or once-off?

Both get you the same website. The difference is cash flow.

  • Pay monthly if you would rather keep money in the business. You spread the website over 12 months and own it outright when the plan ends. Our monthly plan is available when you host with us.
  • Pay once-off if you have the budget now, or if you want to host the site somewhere else. You pay R6 000 for a Starter website and you are done with the website cost.

Good to know: a website plan is a fixed price spread over 12 months, not an open-ended subscription. When it is paid off, it is yours.

Questions to ask any web designer

Before you sign anything, get clear answers to these:

  1. What exactly is included, and how many pages is that?
  2. Is hosting included, and what does it cost after the first year?
  3. Who owns the website, the domain and the content when we are done?
  4. Who do I call when something breaks, and how quickly will they respond?
  5. How long until the site is live?

A designer who answers all five in writing is one you can trust with your business.

The short version

For a new or growing South African business, a custom website does not have to be a big upfront bill. With Sybergain it is R500 a month for the website plus R250 a month for hosting and care, live in about 4 weeks, and yours to keep. Questions people ask

Quick answers

How much does a basic business website cost?

At Sybergain, a Starter website with up to 5 custom-designed pages costs R500 a month over 12 months, or R6 000 once-off. Hosting & care is R250 a month on top, so most clients pay R750 a month in the first year and R250 a month after that.

Is hosting included in the price of a website?

Not at Sybergain. The website price covers design, build and launch. Hosting & care is always a separate R250 a month, billed from the month your site goes live, and includes up to 10 business email inboxes.

Can I pay for a website monthly?

Yes. The website can be paid over 12 months when you host it with Sybergain. If you want to host it elsewhere, the website is paid once-off.

How long does it take to build a small business website?

A Sybergain Starter website goes live in about 4 weeks, depending on how quickly the content and feedback come through.

Do I need to pay VAT on top?

No. Sybergain is not VAT registered, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay.
